  • Quick and Easy: Fruit salad is so easy to make! It can be prepared in less than 10 minutes; simply dice up all your favourite fruits and add in your dressing. For added convenience, prep the fruits ahead of time and add the dressing just before serving. Ideal for potlucks, barbecues, or any gathering!
  • Versatile: Fruit salad is a healthy and versatile treat that’s perfect for any time of day! You can prepare it ahead, and serve it for dessert, breakfast, or a snack. Ingredients

  • Strawberries: Remove the stems and slice them into quarters.
  • Blackberries: Wash and dry on a paper towel, as blackberries tend to be quite absorbent.
  • Apples: To prevent browning, either add them at the last minute or toss the cut pieces in a little lemon juice.
  • Raspberries: Wash gently and dry thoroughly to avoid excess moisture.
  • Oranges: Mini oranges or mandarins work best. If using larger oranges, peel the skin and dice into bite-sized pieces.
  • Lime: Use both lime juice and lime zest to brighten the flavour.
  • Basil: Stick to fresh basil for the best results, or substitute with fresh mint leaves.
  • Honey: Adds a subtle sweetness. For a vegan-friendly option, swap it with agave syrup.
  • Sea salt: A pinch of sea salt enhances and balances all the flavours. Avoid using table salt for this recipe.

Fruit Salad Variations

Toppings – Sprinkle unsweetened coconut shreds or poppy seeds over the fruit salad.

Fruits – I tend to steer clear of bananas in my fruit salads as they can make the texture slimy. Instead, I like a variety of other fruits, such as mangoes, pineapples, blueberries, kiwis, or pitted cherries. The beauty of making a fruit salad is that there is no one right way to do it, so feel free to get creative and use whichever fruits you prefer.

Herbs – Add fresh mint leaves

Seasonings: For an Indian fusion, sprinkle chaat masala over the fruits.

Citrus – Instead of lime juice, you can add fresh orange juice or lemon juice.

How To Prevent Fruits From Turning Brown

  1. For the best results, assemble the fruit salad just before serving to keep the fruits fresh and prevent excess juices from mixing. If making it ahead, avoid fruits like apples, pears, and bananas, as they oxidize quickly. Alternatively, prepare the other fruits in advance and cut the apples or pears just before serving and toss them with a little lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. If you plan on serving the fruit salad later or have any leftovers, it’s important to refrigerate them. When left out at room temperature, the fruit salad may release more juices and darken faster. also who does not love a chilled fruit salad in the summer!
  3. To prevent discoloration, add a splash of citrus juice like lemon, lime, orange, or pineapple. The acidity helps slow down the browning process and keeps the fruit looking fresh!
