Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Onions: Use either white or red onions.
  • Garlic: I like to use fresh garlic cloves and garlic powder to boost the flavours, but if you’re not a fan of a strong garlic taste, you can skip the garlic powder.
  • Jalapeño: Use fresh jalapenos for the best flavour, but jarred jalapenos will also work, although they won’t have the same taste.
  • Spinach: You can use fresh or frozen spinach for this. Just make sure to squeeze out the extra water before adding it to the bowl. If you’re using fresh spinach, sauté it in a pan, let it cool, and then squeeze out any extra liquid before putting it in the bowl with the other ingredients.
  • Cream Cheese: Only use full-fat cream cheese blocks.
  • Mayonnaise: I like using low-fat mayo for a lighter dip, but regular mayo works fine too.
  • Sour cream: Use full fat our low-fat sour cream.
  • Seasonings: The dip is made with garlic powder, salt, pepper, chili flakes, dried parsley, and Cajun seasoning. If you don’t have Cajun seasoning, you can use only paprika.
  • Cheese: You can use mozzarella, cheddar, or any cheese flavour. Just make sure to avoid using pre-shredded cheese!
